Trees & Community: Enhancing Local Liveability

This event is organised by Centre for Health in All Policies Research Translation (CHiAPRT) and supported by the Adelaide University Environment Institute and the City of Salisbury.

Studies have shown that trees provide incredible health, environmental and economic benefits, such as improving our physical and mental health, keeping our cities cool, removing air pollution, and fighting against climate change. However, many community members have concerns about urban trees, including maintenance costs, property damage, and decreased street accessibility.

Over the last few years, CHiAPRT has teamed up with Green Adelaide, the Adelaide University Environment Institute, and the Cities of Salisbury and Unley to investigate the impact of trees on our health, the environment, and the economy, and to develop an urban planning tool to explore the economic value of trees.

Through this workshop, we want to first hear your views on trees.

What value do urban trees hold for you? Is it the shade they provide on hot days, or the joy of watching your children climb them in the park? Do you have concerns around trees – perhaps regarding safety or cost? What are your hopes for the urban trees in your community? Would you like to see more trees, less trees, different trees?

We will then share our experience and learnings from the last few years about the value of trees to help community members understand the worth of trees and develop positive relationships with them. We hope to be able to acknowledge community concerns, share knowledge, and discuss how to work toward a future where we can all enjoy the many benefits which trees have to offer.

Who should attend? We welcome all community members who have interest in or concerns about urban trees. This includes local residents, council staff, local business owners, state government workers, and anyone else who has an interest in this topic! We look forward to seeing you there!
