Description

The Tri Dosha Balancing Series is a traditional and distinctive Tantrik Yoga practice rooted in the Kaula lineage of classical Tantra, bringing together Tantra and Ayurveda through a precise sequence of 36 āsanas, prāṇāyāma, bandhas, meditation and deep relaxation.

Working with the qualities of Vata, Pitta and Kapha, the practice aims to harmonise and optimise the whole system: body, breath, nervous system and subtle energy.

This is a slow, gentle and deeply meditative practice. The postures are generally held for longer periods, with much of the practice taking place lying down. Between postures, periods of Śavāsana and stillness allow the whole system to settle and integrate.

The practice is intentionally guided with minimal verbal cueing. You are invited to keep your eyes closed for most of the practice, turning your attention away from the external world and towards your own inner landscape.

Deep, rhythmic chest breathing is incorporated throughout the practice, supporting nervous system regulation, relaxation and meditation. As the body progressively softens, the conscious mind becomes quieter, creating more space in the body, the breath and the mind.

From relaxation into meditation

At the heart of Tri Dosha is deep relaxation as a doorway to meditation.

Instead of trying to control, improve or fix your experience, you are invited to slow down, listen and allow. Throughout the practice, you are repeatedly invited to relax the muscles, the organs and the whole body, learning to release effort and surrender into what is already here.

As the system becomes deeply relaxed, consciousness can move into quieter states associated with theta activity and the subconscious mind. Thoughts, emotions, sensations, beliefs and habitual patterns may come into awareness. Nothing needs to be rejected or changed; you simply create space to experience what arises.

The Tantric perspective

Tri Dosha is ultimately a practice of self-discovery, self-understanding and recognising the nature of your experience.

In the Kaula Tantric view, everything is an expression of the Absolute. Existence itself is Līlā, the divine play. You are not practising because something is fundamentally wrong with you that needs to be fixed or healed. You practise to remember what you really are beyond conditioning.

Through relaxation, awareness and surrender, you slowly begin to let go of the stories and attachments through which you normally define yourself, creating space to recognise your deeper nature.

Entering the Zero State

As the practice deepens, relaxation gradually becomes stillness, and stillness opens the possibility of entering what is known within the tradition as the Zero State.

As the body, breath, senses and conscious mind become increasingly quiet, your ordinary experience of time, space and sensory perception can fall away. The usual sense of being a separate individual becomes less defined, and awareness can become expansive.

As you let go of stories and attachments, you may experience yourself beyond your usual limitations, as the infinite.

The Zero State is not something to force or achieve. It emerges through progressively relaxing, releasing and surrendering. In this space, you may experience moments of non-dual awareness and recognise what has always been present beneath your usual identification: consciousness, love and bliss.

What you may experience

Over this 2.5-hour journey, you may experience:

• profound physical and mental relaxation

• a quieter mind and deeper inner stillness

• greater awareness of subconscious patterns

• rebalancing of the subtle energy body

• deeper connection with the body and breath

• more restful sleep and deep restoration

• moments of non-dual awareness

• a sense of spaciousness, harmony, enjoyment and joy

Although 2.5 hours may sound long, the practice is deeply relaxing and includes extended periods of Śavāsana, meditation and integration. As you move deeper within, your usual sense of time may begin to change.

The asanas are accessible and adaptable to different bodies and levels of experience. No previous experience of Tantra or advanced yoga is required.

Herbal tea will be provided at the end of the class.

About the facilitator

Valentina Verardo is a certified Tantra Yoga Facilitator who was initiated into the Kaula tradition of classical Tantra at Shri Kali Ashram in India, established by Ācārya Bhagavan Shanmukha Anantha Natha. There, she immersed herself in the study and practice of the traditional Śaiva-Śākta Tantric system, exploring Tantra as both a spiritual philosophy and a way of life.

Her studies encompassed the many dimensions of Kaula Tantra, including āsana, prāṇāyāma, bandhas, mantra, yantra, ritual, kuṇḍalinī, chakras, Yoga Nidra and meditation. Her approach honours the body, breath and subtle energy as integral to spiritual practice and as pathways to deeper meditation, self-awareness and connection with the Divine.
