Trim-a-Tree @LosAltos Adopt a Tree
Event description
Show your creativity and holiday spirit by participating in the fifth annual Trim-a-Tree @LosAltos holiday tree adoption program presented by the Los Altos Village Association, Los Altos Chamber of Commerce and the City of Los Altos. By adopting a tree and decorating it for display in Downtown Los Altos, you will support local business by bringing the community out to see all Los Altos businesses have to offer.
Trees are reserved on a first-come, first-served basis and space is limited.
This year is a little different. We are renting live redwood trees in pots for the month of December. After the festive season, your tree will grow on to live a long and happy life! This is a more environmentally friendly option, which also has the bonus of "set and forget": once you have decorated your tree, it will be watered on your behalf throughout the month.
If you have a storefront or business, you still have the option of a fresh-cut Douglas Fir tree should you wish.
The cost to participate in the 2024 program is $55.00 for a cut tree, or $150 for a live tree in a pot. Price covers the cost of the tree. Organizers are absorbing taxes and fees.
Important Note: By applying for this program, you agree to follow the rules as listed below. Reach out to Scott or Liz at the Village Association with any questions, (650) 949-5282.
- Deadline to apply for participation is Sunday, November 24, and the number of trees is limited. Participants will be chosen on a first-come, first-served basis.
- Trees will be delivered on Tuesday, December 3.
- Decorate your tree before Friday, December 6. (Please note: This is the date of the Holiday Tree Celebration held in Veterans Community Plaza from 6-8PM. Have your trees decorated by then for all to see.)
- Get creative and have fun with decorations!
- Ornaments should be well made, wind and water-resistant. Avoid using food (i.e., pasta) and paper as ornament decorations, as they will not withstand inclement weather.
- Your tree will be approximately 4 to 5 feet tall. It is recommended that you have a minimum of 40 ornaments for your tree.
- For cut trees, a weatherproof tree skirt (such as burlap) is strongly recommended to cover the tree stand and sandbags used to help secure the tree.
- Businesses: You have a choice to have your tree adjacent to your business or in one of the specially designated areas. Make your choice during check-out.
- You will not have access to an electrical outlet, so please do not put lights on your tree, unless they are battery-operated or solar-powered (preferred).
- Use sturdy wires to attach ornaments to your tree to prevent them from being blown or knocked off the tree.
- Please do not remove the tree identification ornament from the top of the tree.
- Some trees are positioned in front of buildings such that not all sides are visible. You only need to decorate the parts of the tree that are visible to passers-by.
- You may only decorate the tree; not the space around.
- Please do not ask to switch trees.
- Decorations must be appropriate and family-friendly and may not contain any inappropriate or offensive language and or symbols. Event organizers reserve the right to remove any decorations that are deemed inappropriate or offensive.
- Check on your tree while it is on display - especially decorations/ornaments after storms.
- Please plan to remove all tree decorations beginning January 1 and complete by the end of the day Thursday, January 2.
Thank you for participating in this festive program! You will be contacted with additional information including the location of your tree. We hope that you enjoy bringing holiday cheer to our town.
