Trio Kagura

The name “Kagura” derives from the word for ritual music and dance performed since ancient times in Japan to bring joy and peace to the community. Trio Kagura looks forward to sharing that joy and inspiring audiences in New Zealand through their music-making.
Trio Kagura is an international ensemble based in the United Kingdom, comprising acclaimed musicians from Japan, Lithuania and New Zealand. Known for their dynamic and innovative performances, Trio Kagura performs regularly across the UK and Europe and has been invited to perform at various prestigious chamber music festivals, including the Akademie Telč festival in the Czech Republic, the Chamber Music in Lavethan Festival in Cornwall, and the Chamber Music Atelier Delft in the Netherlands. The ensemble has had the privilege of working with some of the world’s finest musicians, including David Waterman, Kathryn Stott, Pavel Fischer, Petr Prause, Donald Grant, and former members of the Talich Quartet, as well as members of Trio Gaspard and the Paddington Trio. Recent highlights include being awarded a residency as Britten-Pears Young Artists for 2024-2025 at Snape Maltings, as well as an invitation to the renowned Chamber Studio.
