True Tracks®: a pathway to Indigenous engagement

True Tracks® is a professional development workshop designed to assist corporate and government agencies with their Indigenous engagement programs, by introducing a solutions driven and holistic approach to managing Indigenous Cultural and Intellectual Property (ICIP).

The True Tracks® method has already been successfully applied to a range of industries and agencies, including; information technology, construction, communication, design, museum & gallery, science, research, arts and education.  At varied levels of federal, state and local government, non-government organisations and ASX listed entities.

Your True Tracks® co-presenters will be:

Laura Melrose has expertise in native title, cultural heritage and environmental law, intellectual property and Indigenous Cultural and Intellectual Property (ICIP). She is a skilled policy writer and has worked with a range of government and corporate clients to develop both recommendations reports and implementable policies in areas of ICIP, Indigenous Data Sovereignty, First Nations engagement and management of cultural heritage. Laura is experienced in consulting with First Nations stakeholders both online and on Country, and has drafted a variety of agreements for best practice collaborations between Indigenous and non-Indigenous organisations. She is also a regular presenter of TJC’s True Tracks® ICIP Workshop and has presented to a range of audiences, including Indigenous organisations, government agencies, universities, and during conferences.

Neane Carter is a proud Djaara, Yorta Yorta, Wamba Wamba, Wergaia, Wotjobaluk woman from northern and central Victoria. Neane draws on her cultural knowledge and connection to ensure her clients received culturally informed and appropriate advice. She creatively weaves solutions for her clients utilising a system that was established to oppress them. Where the western legal system has been used as a weapon against community, Neane now uses it as a tool to advance and elevate community. Neane was admitted to the Supreme Court of Victoria in 2022. She holds a Legal Practising Certificate and is a member of the Law Society of New South Wales. Prior to arriving at Terri Janke and Company, Neane was appointed as an Associate to his Honour Judge Purcell in the County Court of Victoria.
