Annual Tūmahi Whiti Makutu Kairangahau Wānanga November 20-21st 2026
Description
Tūmahi Whiti Makutu Annual Kairangahau Wānanga Registration
Nau mai, hāere mai
At IUE, we are committed to supporting Māori health and wellbeing through culturally responsive engagement between researchers and Māori communities, helping to bridge the gap between Māori and health research within evolving technological and research spaces.
This kaupapa was developed through an equity-focused approach to support Tangata Tiriti kairangahau and their engagement with Māori communities, with the shared goal of contributing to Pae Ora — positive Māori health and wellbeing outcomes.
At IUE, we believe that both Tangata Whenua and Tangata Tiriti have a shared responsibility under Te Tiriti o Waitangi to uphold equitable approaches across research, health, education, and community spaces. Te Tiriti created space for all peoples of Aotearoa and reminds us of our collective responsibility to strengthen relationships and improve outcomes for communities experiencing inequities alongside Tangata Whenua.
This year, we are excited to welcome rangatahi and kura from across the region to work alongside our national working group in helping to shape, guide, and lead aspects of the Wānanga. Together, we will explore what rangahau and hauora look and feel like through the perspectives of our young people.
What to Expect
Participants will have opportunities to:
Explore Kaupapa Māori approaches to engagement and practice
Develop a deeper understanding of Te Tiriti partnership responsibilities
Experience Te Ao Māori worldviews and Mātauranga Māori within research spaces
Learn how research can meaningfully uphold Tino Rangatiratanga
Strengthen understanding of the role of Tangata Tiriti kairangahau
Engage directly with whānau, rangatahi, Māori, and Pasifika communities
We already have a relationship under Te Tiriti o Waitangi — this Wānanga is an opportunity to reconnect, reflect, and strengthen that relationship together.
The Tūmahi Whiti Makutu Annual Kairangahau Wānanga is a two-day marae-based experience supporting Tangata Tiriti kairangahau to engage meaningfully with Māori communities, kura, and whānau as we work collectively towards Pae Ora — the advancement of Māori health and wellbeing.
