Event description

A paradox in the way universities pursue Sustainability is that they are structured to deliver reductionist knowledge through disciplines whereas the concept requires a holistic systems epistemology to deeply integrate Sustainability's economic, social, environmental, and cultural dimensions. The aim of the forum is to further examine arguments for why universities need to put a systems’ epistemology at their core and to canvass the required structural reforms to ensure the warp and weft of disciplinary and systems thinking always occur in unison.

Join Education for Sustainability Expert and Keynote Speaker Emeritus Professor Stephen Sterling (University of Plymouth, UK) in a conversation about just how serious the disciplinary structures of universities are for the Sustainability transition and what needs to change to embed a systems epistemology at the heart of academia.

With Guest Speakers:

Professor Dr Agni Kalfagianni, Erasmus University
Professor Fred Gale, University of Tasmania

And

  • Assoc Prof Aidan Davison, University of Tasmania
  • Dr Laura Ripoll Gonzalez, Erasmus University
