Turning Point Auditions 2025

Turning Point Youth Praise Band of Asbury Youth ministries is currently auditioning the following positions. We are currently auditioning VOCALS, PIANO, BASS GUITAR, DRUMS, HORNS and STRINGS. The audition requirements are : 1. "the House of God, Forever" by Jon Foreman. (Go to this link for the music and videos) and 2. a prepared piece of your choosing that shows your musical abilities and range. These selections can be secular or Christian, but please remember you are auditioning for a Christian leader position while choosing your selection. 1. Vocals - Male and female. All voices are individually mic'ed and each vocalist is reliant on the other vocalists. Applicants need to be able to sing in tune, match pitch, and hold pitch when someone is singing a harmony or countermelody. Ability to sing harmony is not a requirement, however does increase eligibility. We typically audition this position every year, even if we have returning vocalists.

2. Guitar -Electric or Acoustic (NO SPOTS CURRENTLY AVAILABLE) You must have access to or own an acoustic guitar with pickups or an electric guitar and amp for this position.

3. Bass - You must have a bass and access to a bass amp (for gigs outside the church).

4. Piano - Praise band piano music is not written in traditional "sheet music" like most classical and popular music. All music will have the song lyrics with chord names written above and the player will need to be able to form those chords and create their piano part from those chords.

5. Drums - We use an electric drum set primarily in this group. It is not required but recommended that you have an acoustic drum set for practice and for an occasional outdoor gig. For your audition, your required song is 'Come Thou Fount" by Kings Kaleidoscope. Click here for the YouTube video. 6. Percussion - We have several percussion instruments (tambourine, shakers, congas...) . This is not a position that will be used for every song and the key to this position is control and knowing how to add to the sound of the whole group. 7. Horn (saxophone, trombone, trumpet) - There are 2 horn spots available. The horn music is not written out into the traditional "sheet music" style. ALl music will have lyrics with chord names written above. The player will need to know how to transpose those chords into the key of their instrument and create their part. The required piece is "House of God, Forever." Please also remember to have a prepared piece of your choosing that shows your abilities and range.

8. Strings( violin, viola, cello) - There is only one spot for a string instrument. The music for this position is not written out into the traditional "sheet music" style. All music will have the song lyrics with chord names (such as "G" or "C#m") written above song lyrics and the player will need to create their string part from that.Please also remember to have a prepared piece of your choosing that shows your abilities and range.
