Event description

Join Us for Turtle Tales: Protecting Our Local Species!

Come along to Goolwa Library for an engaging session to celebrate Turtle Month and learn about our incredible local turtles and their vital role in the environment. Discover why these species are so important and learn practical ways we can all help in their conservation.

Our session will feature two expert presenters:

  • Professor Mike Thompson from the University of Sydney, a leading authority in turtle biology research. Mike's groundbreaking study was the first to reveal the dangers fox predation posed to Australian turtles. Since then, he has become a key advocate for turtle conservation efforts in South Australia.
  • Deanne from Alexandrina Wildlife Support Group, a passionate wildlife rescuer with many years of experience. Deanne will share her personal insights into rescuing local turtles found in the Alexandrina region.

You'll also learn about the award-winning citizen science project, One Million Turtles, and how to contribute through TurtleSat, a platform for recording turtle sightings. Plus, find out about the common turtles you may spot in our local area.

This session is family friendly; any children will need to be supervised by an adult.

Please arrive at 12.45pm for a 1.00pm start.

This event is supported by Alexandrina Council as an activity from the Alexandrina Greening and Wildlife Project, and is also seeded by Green Adelaide
