This is a hands-on, immersive workshop and experience focused on wild foods foraging and connecting with nature. You will learn to identify, locate, and ethically harvest seasonal fruits, nuts, seeds, greens, and medicinal plants.
What to Expect
Meet and Orientation
• Time and place: Departing 9am from the Fingal Surf Lifesaving Club.
• Welcome: Brief introductions, safety and ethics briefing, and an outline of the afternoon.
Foraging Walk and Plant Skills
• Guided identification: Jessie leads plant ID sessions focused on edible and medicinal species local to the area.
• Harvest techniques: Demonstrations of safe, sustainable harvesting and simple processing (drying, basic preparation).
• Cultural context: Stories about historic uses and respectful relationships with the land.
• Hands-on practice: Participants practice locating and identifying plants, with emphasis on seasonal highlights such as native plums, figs, nuts, greens, and tree saponins (nature’s soap).
Practical Information
• Duration: Approximately 1.5(ish) hrs
• Fitness level: Moderate. The walk is gentle but may include uneven ground and short slopes.
• Accessibility: Please contact us ahead of time if you have mobility needs so we can best support you.
• Weather: Rain, hail, or shine. Bring appropriate clothing for the conditions.
• What to bring: Sturdy shoes, sun protection, water and insect repellent.
