As Joint CEO of Shaw + Smith, he combines global insight with a hands-on approach to regional expression—shaping the estate’s direction through thoughtful storytelling, strategic leadership, and a commitment to excellence. David's experience spans the worlds of fine wine retail, distribution, and education, and his passion for wine communication brings an engaging layer to every tasting experience. At the heart of his work lies a belief in authenticity, place, and the power of wine to connect people.

Penny Grant
Queensland Market and Education Manager Shaw + Smith & MMAD Vineyard

As QLD Market and Education Manager Penny looks after the state for all things Shaw + Smith and MMAD Vineyard. With primary focuses on trade and education, in particular providing direction and support to our Australian distributors. Penny is an accomplished wine show judge and a 2022 Len Evans Tutorial scholar. In 2014 Penny was awarded Pol Roger Good Food Guide Sommelier of the year. Her previous role was Group Sommelier for the Ghanem Group in Brisbane. She looked after the wine program for their 11 venues including writing wine lists, staff education and service. Previous to joining the Ghanem Group in 2014, Penny worked her way through some of Melbourne’s most notable restaurants.
