Tzedek Collective Purim 5785: crafting strength
Event description
Purim is traditionally a joyful festival. Often referred to as "Jewish Halloween", it is replete with food, costumes, mutual aid, and reading the Purim story from a special scroll (Megillat Esther). Last year, we protested a genocide propagandist using the framework of this day. This year, join Tzedek Collective online to learn more about Purim and discuss its meaning for anti-Zionist Jews.
Together, we will learn about Purim; create something; and discuss how the themes of Purim might relate to our role as anti-Zionist Jews. Crafting is optional and non-didactic: we have some ideas (come along to find out how golems relate to Purim, or make yourself a mask or costume), but this is very much a DIY project, not a step-by-step instructable. After the event is finished, there will be an optional and not-strictly-halachic reading of Megillat Esther for those who would like to hear it.
Please bring:
- anything you would like to craft with (e.g., air-dry clay, paper goods, fabric or yarn, paints, pencils, cookie dough) and maybe an idea of what you'd like to do with it
- snacks and beverages
- anything else that will help you stay comfortable and engaged with the session
Open to all anti-Zionist Jews and allies. To facilitate open discussion, this session will not be recorded. Optional breakout rooms may be utilised depending on the number of attendees, with a quiet room available. Camera on/off is welcome.
