UNAA NSW Meetup: "Peace Begins With Me"
Event description
Our June meetup is themed “peace begins with me” – inspired by the recent celebration of the International Day for United Nations Peacekeepers on 29 May.
The theme recognises that ordinary people are working in difficult and dangerous conditions to help secure sustainable peace and progress – urging us all to take action for peace.
Accordingly, the meetup will see two volunteers from the UNAA NSW peace and security pillar team share their experiences volunteering overseas – from Africa to the Middle East and to Asia.
A presentation will also be made by Tim Ford AO, who previously held high-level positions at UN Peacekeeping missions, including as Head of Mission at UNTSO and as Chief Military Advisor at UN Headquarters. Tim will discuss the role of peacekeeping in the maintenance of peace and security.
A short video will also cover the recent celebration of UN Peacekeepers Day and its theme: “peace begins with me”.
Pizza and drinks are provided with the ticket, which will be shared towards the end of the meetup when you and your fellow global citizens will also have the time to connect and chat.
The meetup will be held at the Western Sydney University City Campus, Level 4, 255 Elizabeth St, Sydney. The venue is opposite Hyde Park with plenty of public transport options available.
