AUSTI. Dance and Physical Theatre is thrilled to announce the return of its acclaimed residency project, uNCOILEd eXposed, for its fifth annual season. Running from October 16th to 18th at the Illawarra Movinng Arts Hub, this year’s event promises to be a showcase of innovative choreography and exceptional talent.

The season features two new experimental pieces from emerging choreographers: Reina Takeuchi and Hannah Brookes. Each piece represents the culmination of a residency, which provides artists with the time, space, and resources to develop and present a new work.

Reina Takeuchi - Reina Brigette Takeuchi is a Japanese Australian independent dance artist interested in cross-cultural exchange, collaboration and creative facilitation. Her performance projects have included installations at Ars Electronica Festival in Linz, and SomoS Arts, Berlin, and performances for Liveworks Festival of Experimental Art, Performance Space, the Museum of Contemporary Art’s Late program, Australian Chamber Orchestra’s Pier 2/3 and Sydney Dance Company. Her most recent co-directed show Ghosts Between Streams (2024) was awarded highly in two categories at Sydney Fringe Festival – Best in Dance and Music. She's a co-facilitator of Palette Session Australia, an experimental dance lab, and will be travelling and teaching in Asia and Australia throughout 2025.

Hannah Brookes - Hailing from Yuin Country on the NSW South Coast, Hannah is a multidisciplinary creative and performer whose artistic interests lie in contemporary dance and music. After four years at WAAPA completing her Bachelor of Arts (Dance) and Bachelor of Performing Arts (Honours), she performed with LINK Dance Company and now joins Dance Makers Collective’s Future Makers program. In 2019, Hannah apprenticed with AUSTI Dance & Physical Theatre, becoming a Junior Company Member in 2020. As a musician, she has written and performed as both a solo artist and band member, appearing on festival stages and venues since 2013.

Join us for just one sharing or both! From 6pm we welcome you to Coalcliff Beach for a site specific work curated by Reina 6.30pm - 7.15pm. After this we will walk back to the hall to watch a work curated by Hannah 7.30pm - 8.15pm. Concluding the evening with an open discussion 8.15 - 8.30.

uNCOILEd eXposed is the Illawarra’s first-ever curated, outcome-based contemporary dance residency project. It’s dedicated to nurturing fresh voices in the dance community while honouring the memory of Nicole Fitzsimons, a dear friend of Artistic Director Michelle Maxwell and supporter of AUSTI. Dance and Physical Theatre.
