'Undercover' documentary screening
Event description
Southern Cross University (Social Work and Community Welfare), in partnership with Documentary Australia, are pleased to host a full-length screening of the documentary UNDER COVER. Narrated by Margot Robbie and written, directed and produced by Sue Thompson, UNDER COVER shines a light on the devastating reality that women over 55+ are increasingly at risk of homelessness in this country. Through moving but optimistic portraits, Under Cover reveals the struggles that these women face, and lays bare the flaws in our society, as well as our economic fragility in the modern world. The film also uncovers how with the appropriate resources, policy and support, women's security can be
restored, and stability for them can be realised.
Following the screening, Director Sue Thompson will join a panel including local service providers and researchers to discuss issues of homelessness highlighted in the film and the responses needed across local, state and national levels to address them. Audience members will be encouraged to participate in these discussions.
The panel will be facilitated by Dr Darran Stonehouse (SCU) and panellists will include: Sue Thompson; Ryan O'Leary (QCOSS - Manager, Community Engagement, Research & Policy) Teagan Craig (UnitingCare - Service Leader, Gold Coast Homeless Hub); & Sacha Dartiguenave (Social Futures - Team Leader, Connecting Home).
