Understanding and designing Indigenous financial services, during and post pandemics

This event has passed Register

Event description

Economies that are based on sharing and community are particularly vulnerable during times of economic disruptors - which COVID-19 has proven to be, highlighting the widespread impacts of financial vulnerability across multiple communities across Australia.

In this impact2020 webinar, presented in partnership with the First Nations Foundation, there will be the opportunity to learn about the specific contexts and experiences of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with financial services, particularly during the pandemic.

The webinar will also focus on research completed by the Centre for Social Impact, First Nations Foundation and National Australia Bank which demonstrates that designing and delivering financial services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples needs to address barriers such as financial literacy, location, and appropriateness of services and products offered.

Webinar panellists will also discuss and highlight considerations and perspectives for designing and offering services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients, both in the financial sector and other social service sectors.

Panellists:

  • Phil Usher: CEO, First Nations Foundation
  • Lynda Edwards: Coordinator, Financial Capability Community of Practice, Financial Counselling Australia
  • Eveanne Liddle: Head of Indigenous Affairs and Strategic Inclusion, National Australia Bank
  • Moderator: Dr Megan Weier, Research Fellow, Centre for Social Impact UNSW

Please note:
This webinar starts at 12:00pm (AEST) and registrations will close an hour before the webinar starts.

The webinar will be recorded and made available shortly afterwards. Please register to receive the first release of the recording.

This impact2020 webinar is a free event presented by the Centre for Social Impact (CSI) and First Nations Foundation.

About impact2020

These are unprecedented times and the upheaval to our society requires an extraordinary response from our leaders, our thinkers and our do-ers.

Our first series of impact2020 - presented by the Centre for Social Impact - offered free daily webinars for the Australian for-purpose sector during April, May and June 2020, covering a range of topic areas with CSI's innovative researchers, educators and thought leaders.

We covered the breadth and complexity of social impact and we brought our diverse Australian for-purpose sector together.

We're now continuing with a second impact2020 series with monthly webinars from June 2020, in partnership with our network. We invite you to join, learn and affect change with us.
