Mobilising for Gaza: Understanding the Crisis and Taking Action
Event description
Amnesty International Australia is hosting a webinar on the crisis unfolding in Gaza and our response and work on the ground. Join us for this important conversation and to hear about different ways you can take action on Tuesday 14th November at 6.00pm AEDT.
Thousands of civilians have been killed in the escalation of violence in Israel and Gaza. As the world watches in horror, Amnesty International has been researching, monitoring, and documenting human rights violations, campaigning for the protection of civilians. Amnesty's Digital Evidence Lab has been verifying evidence of violations of international humanitarian law, like the use of white phosphorus by the Israeli Defence Force. In this webinar, we will delve deeper into recent updates from our research and work on the ground.
Amnesty International is calling for a ceasefire now and for all parties to abide by international law, and make every effort to avoid civilian bloodshed. Neither justice nor security can be achieved by a civilian bloodbath in Gaza. We will discuss further ways our actions here can help with the crisis unfolding in Gaza, and how we can support people and communities affected by the conflict.Â
Our speakers:
Ammar Abu Shamleh
Joining Amnesty is Palestinian Australian, founding president of Palestinian Cultural Society of The University of Western Australia and an intern at Australia Palestine Advocacy Network (APAN). Ammar will share the Palestinian community's response to this violence, how people can support that response, and the everyday reality for his family in Palestine and Australia.
Nikita White
Nikita is a strategic campaigner at Amnesty International, with extensive experience designing and delivering campaigns to promote and protect human rights. With degrees in law and international relations, she has a demonstrated understanding of human rights issues and systems, including international human rights law.
