Understanding Employment Award Classifications

Event description

Please note: this event is run by the Small Business Development Corporation for small business owners inΒ Western Australia only.

A modern employee award classification sets out the minimum terms and conditions of employment on top of the National Employment Standards (NES). In this workshop, you will learn to identify which modern award applies to your workplace and the elements of the award that you need to understand.

You will learn to interpret the clauses within the award and access and read the associated pay guides. Understand how to handle employee's pay under the award including ordinary hours, overtime, penalties and allowances.

This interactive workshop will include a Q&A at the end of the session.Β

This topic covers:
  • Differentiate between state and federal industrial relations systems
  • Identify the relevant awards for your industry and business
  • Analyse and interpret the clauses within a modern award
  • Understand common sections of the award that employers often miss
  • Review pay guides and learn how to interpret them

This workshop is suitable for employing business owners responsible for interpreting the terms and conditions in modern awards.

The facilitator of this topicΒ Life at Work specialises in providing HR support for small to medium sized businesses who may not have a dedicated internal HR team, or require a little extra help for their existing HR team.
