Understanding Middle Childhood Development
Event description
Understanding Middle Childhood Development Workshop
Middle Childhood Development 7-12 years is often a stage of development less focussed on in the literature compared to Early Childhood or Adolescent development. However for OOSH services, this is a very critical stage of development and often impacts on how children engage and relate socially.
This special session will outline:
o   the unique characteristics of Middle Development
o   the variables that come into play in relation to behaviour and interactions between children at this age
o   practical Tier 1 strategies to increase participation, including how to set up the environment to support behaviour and emotional regulation in ALL children
o   how to support children with developmental differences
o   how to increase a sense of belonging – particularly older children using the service
o   the ways targeted Educator engagement can be used to support positive interactions and reduce risk
