Understanding 'Self' with Dr Kelsey Perrykkad
Event description
Understanding 'Self' - A Conversation with Dr. Kelsey Perrykadd
Who are we, really? What does it mean to have a sense of self and how does it evolve over time? From major life changes to everyday experience, our sense of identity plays a powerful role in how we navigate the world.
In our next M3CS seminar, Dr Kelsey Perrykkad will join us to explore the fascinating science and philosophy behind the concept of 'self'. Drawing on her background in cognitive science, psychology, neuroscience, and philosophy, Kelsey will discuss how we come to know ourselves, how the self can shift, and the role practices like meditation might play in shaping it.
This conversation will explore:
• What it means to have a sense of self
• How identity changes over time and through life transitions
• The potential for a 'healthy' or 'unhealthy' self
• How mindfulness and meditation impact self-perception
Exploring Meditation, Meaning and the Mind:
This free monthly webinar series offers a deep dive into the realm of contemplative wisdom. Every first Thursday of the month (AEST/AEDT) at lunchtime, immerse yourself in discussions with a diverse panel of thinkers, meditators, researchers, and individuals from various wisdom traditions, discussing topics like mindful parenting, burnout, morality, and the impacts of technology on attention. These sessions, guided by Professor Craig Hassed, conclude with an interactive Q&A, giving you a unique opportunity to engage with the panellists. This series is an open invitation to explore the profound impact of contemplative practices and bridge the gap between ancient wisdom and the complexities of modern living.
