Understanding Harmful Behaviours and Bystander Intervention is part of the University’s commitment to providing a supportive and safe environment to prevent gender based violence and microaggressions on campus. This training session assists participants in understanding how some harmful behaviours are expressed in our educational institutions, workplaces, and communities and provides detailed and practical skills and strategies in intervening in the systems, structures and behaviours that may normalise or foster harm.

This training is available for all ANU staff members and students.

What the course will cover
- Review diagnostic frameworks that support us to understand why these attitudes, beliefs and behaviours exist in our community
- Establish the broader context around gender-based violence including examining the attitudes, beliefs and behaviours that normalise problematic behaviour
- Explore intervention frameworks and apply your learnings to ANU specific contexts and scenarios, learning how to interrupt and challenge problematic behaviours, systems and norms.
- Safe spaces, support services and reporting options: How to create safe work and learning spaces, on and off-campus support services for those who have experienced harm, university procedures and protocols around disclosures, reporting options and advocacy, the role of the Inclusive and Respectful Communities team in organisational culture change
