PRS Australia October 2024 Panel Discussion
What are the indicators of strong supervision practice? How can supervision teams work together productively to shape good practice in research training? What roles do candidates play in ensuring good supervision practice?
Candidates and Supervisors are invited to join senior research leaders for a discussion on supervision practices and unique discipline approaches. The panel will discuss best practice for supervision of research candidates entails and what is distinctive about creative practice supervision at RMIT.
Refreshments will be provided during the presentation.
Presenters
Professor Denise Cuthbert has led research training programs for over two decades at Monash University and RMIT. She has served as President of the Australian Council for Graduate Research, the peak body for graduate research education in Australia and has pioneered programs designed to enhance the quality of research training in Australian universities. Denise is an active researcher and an accomplished supervisor of HDR candidates – with 53 completions. Her candidates publish strongly in candidature and many now occupy leadership roles in higher education, government and the community sector in Australia and overseas.
Jessica Wilkinson is a writer, critic, scholar and editor whose research interests include: poetry and poetics; contemporary poetry; poetic biography; 'nonfiction poetry'; experimental/radical writing; literary theory. Jessica is an Associate Professor in Creative Writing in the School of Media and Communication and the Practice Research Symposium Asia chair
Professor Grace McQuilten is a published art historian, curator and artist with expertise in contemporary art and design, public art, social practice, social enterprise and community development. Grace is Associate Dean of Research and Innovation in the School of Art.
Associate Professor Jenny Underwood is a textile design researcher exploring material-led strategies and system level approaches in the context of fashion and architecture. Jenny is the Associate Dean, Research and Innovation, in the School of Fashion and Textiles.
Dr Leanne Zilka is a registered architect/researcher and Associate Dean, Research and Innovation in the School of Architecture and Urban Design. Her research is a multidisciplinary one that brings together architecture, fashion, textile design and material research to develop light weight fabrication solutions that tap into the technologies and techniques in fashion, textile design, material science and engineering.
Professor Sarah Teasley works across social history and design research. Her research explores how power relations shape experience and access to power, with particular attention to intersectional aspects such as gender, class and culture. Sarah is Associate Dean for Research and Innovation in the School of Design.
