Understanding the contemporary Mad movements

The Center for Mad Culture and the Centre for Mad Culture UK are pleased to host Understanding the Contemporary Mad Movements. The event will feature a presentation by Matthew Jackman on their PhD research, followed by a panel discussion with guests from around the world.

This event is part of an ongoing conversation. It offers a space to explore the complexity of Mad movements across different geographic, cultural, and political contexts. It does not claim to provide a definitive account or to represent the full breadth of Mad communities worldwide.

Mad movements contain many histories, identities, experiences, and political positions. Holding these perspectives together requires care, openness, and a willingness to recognize where views differ. Our intention is not to resolve these differences within a single event, but to create space for learning, reflection, and continued dialogue.

We understand solidarity as a practice that includes listening, responding to changing circumstances, and considering how our decisions affect others. The program has been shaped with this responsibility in mind and may continue to develop as conversations unfold.
