Description

Learn and practice powerful suicide prevention skills in just four hours.

safeTALK is a free, in-person half-day suicide alertness workshop that prepares participants to become suicide-alert helpers. It can be attended by anyone over the age of 15, regardless of their studies, qualifications or experience. safeTALK is for everyone. In this small group training of approximately 15-30 people, participants will learn how to recognize potential thoughts of suicide in others, and become better equipped with the tools to connect an individual in need of support, to further help.

Presented by the batyr team, this training will be delivered by young people, for young people. MUPA is providing this training for any member students.

Participants will:

  • Have free access to this face-to-face training

  • Receive a certificate of completion

  • Have access to a community resource person in the room to support their safety and comfort

  • Engage in facilitated discussions and skills practice

  • Hear a powerful and hopeful story of lived experience

Participants will learn to:

  • Identify someone who may be having thoughts of suicide

  • Initiate a safe conversation and ask directly if thoughts of suicide are present
