Unintended Pregnancy Counselling Training June 2024 - Online

Event description

This two-day Unintended Pregnancy Counselling (UIP) course provides participants with knowledge and skills around non-directive pregnancy counselling. Designed for professionals who support people with unintended pregnancy and those who are the first point of contact for someone facing an unintended pregnancy.  The course is attended by doctors, nurses, social workers, counsellors as well as healthcare workers and educators.

   

The course combines theory and knowledge around unintended pregnancy and abortion access with reflective skills-building activities based on group-based learning principles.

   

Participants will gain essential knowledge, skills and understanding around:

 
  • Issues relating to unintended pregnancy
  • Non-directive counselling and decision-making
  • Understanding psychosocial context of unintended pregnancy
  • Legislative context in W.A.
  • Role of partner, family and support systems
  • Post-termination counselling
  • Referral pathways
   

Participants will discuss various options for unintended pregnancy, review case material and build on their existing knowledge and expertise.  The topics and course material is designed to be applicable to various areas of formal and informal counselling work with people presenting with unintended pregnancy.

   

The course is an RACGP CPD approved activity, accredited for 13 Hours. (Please note the course does not qualify use of MBS item 4001).
