Uniting Conversations - Helping Children to Read
Event description
We all want our children and grandchildren to enjoy reading. Research tells us that 1 in 10, possibly 1 in 5 persons are impacted by dyslexia. It can be severe or it may not. Modern technology is useful but electronic devices mean we are reading less and we know that poor readers at school tend to remain poor readers throughout their lives.
This has far-reaching consequences for them.
Speakers and Panelists
Dr Tiffany Winn is a speech pathologist and as part of her work, supports children
with dyslexia to learn to read. Previously she worked as a university academic and did extensive research in the area of dyslexia and literacy acquisition.
Ms Fiona Prosser is a parent to 3 dyslexic children and will talk about her family's experience as they navigate the dyslexia journey. Fiona hopes to share what steps she has taken to help her children get the support they needed, what she has learnt along the way and give further understanding of the impact that early diagnosis and intervention can have.
