Adapted from the stage play Chinese Take Away, co-created by Anna Yen, Therese Collie and Hilary Beaton, the film was written & performed by Anna Yen and produced & directed by Mitzi Goldman. Anna, Mel and Mitzi will discuss trust & collaboration, reflecting on what has and hasn't changed in the 20 years since the film was made. Join us for an evening of reflection, art and storytelling.

    Film Synopsis:

    {TW: suicide, trauma}

    CHINESE TAKE AWAY (52 mins), an adaptation of an acclaimed physical theatre show, uniquely blends poetic storytelling, drama and archival footage, to bring a true story to the screen. Performer/writer, Anna Yen, in seeking to understand a family tragedy, unravels stories about her grandmother, her mother and herself. The film moves from China in the early 1900s, through Hong Kong in the 30s, suburban Sydney in the 60s, and into the present day. CHINESE TAKE AWAY tells a deeply personal story about strength, loss and transformation that resonates universally.
