Join us for an in-depth review of the key findings from the third independent audit report of Australia's supermarkets and their plastic use, followed by a Q&A with staff from the Australian Marine Conservation Society (AMCS) and The Boomerang Alliance.
Presented by Tara Jones, AMCS, we'll review the performance of major supermarkets Aldi, Coles, Metcash (IGA) and Woolworths and recommendations for reducing plastics use.
This in-depth review will be followed by a Q&A with plastics experts from AMCS and The Boomerang Alliance.
SPEAKERS
Tara Jones, Australian Marine Conservation Society
As Program Manager (Plastics & Packaging) for the Australian Marine Conservation Society, Tara led the development of the audit framework, assessment, and reporting for Australia's first investigation into supermarket plastics. Having previously worked as an environmental consultant in the waste industry, she has significant experience in waste assessments for local government, waste education in schools and communities, and an understanding of the difficulties facing the waste industry in managing Australia's plastic waste.
Toby Hutcheon, The Boomerang Alliance
Toby Hutcheon has worked on environmental issues for over 30 years. He started at Greenpeace as a campaigner, and since that time, Toby has worked in local government, with the NSW Government on waste issues, and was the Executive Director of the Queensland Conservation Council from 2004-2014. Toby has worked for the Boomerang Alliance since the beginning of 2015, during which time many jurisdictions have introduced plastic bag bans and container deposit schemes and now plan to ban problematic single use plastics. He believes that we can all make a difference.
