Get creative and build your sewing skills in this fun and inspiring term of sustainable sewing classes. Perfect for tweens and teens aged 8 and up, this programme is designed to spark imagination while teaching solid sewing foundations.
Led by Harvi, a professional sewer and designer, participants will gain confidence using a sewing machine and working with upcycled fabrics. Learn how to transform old clothes and textiles into fresh, one-of-a-kind pieces while exploring the world of sustainable fashion.
What You'll Learn:
Sewing machine basics
How to troubleshoot common issues
Creative alterations: patching, cutting, embellishing
Upcycling skills and sustainable fashion tips
Deconstructing old clothes to reuse fabric
How to keep upcycling after the course
Week by Week:
Week 1: Meet the group + learn stitches
Weeks 2-3: Make a bag + learn about sewing supplies
What to reuse: ribbons, straps, zips, buttons
Op-shop tips: what to buy or avoid
Weeks 4-5: Make a pencil case or coin purse
Learn about fabric types, threads, needles
Repurpose old garments
Weeks 6-7: Make a cushion + machine care
How to clean and oil your machine
Week 8: Create your own final project using our range of textiles
Machines and textiles provided, bring your own machine if you prefer.
When: Wednesdays, 15 Oct-12 Nov, 4pm - 6pm
