UPSKILLING YOUNG KAIMAHI - FREE WORKSHOP
27 and 28 November 2024 - Tauranga
We are pleased to announce a FREE 2-day workshop in Tauranga next month.
This workshop has been specifically developed for young people supporting young people.
The workshop is co-hosted by the NZ Youth Mentoring Network (the national hub for youth mentoring in Aotearoa) and Ara Taiohi (the peak body for youth development in Aotearoa) with local support from Piritahi Youth Collective and Youth Voice Action.
Workshop overview
The Government’s Youth Plan, launched in 2023 outlines targeted support for young people. As part of this work the NZ Youth Mentoring Network together with Ara Taiohi have created a 2-day workshop that aims to upskill young people across the Motu in youth development and mentoring.
Workshop Objectives
Exploring youth development principles: Mana Taiohi
- Understanding of the youth development informed by Te Ao Māori
- Recognise how to both honour and uplift the mana of young people
- Introduction to youth participation through whai wāhitanga.
Upskilling young mentors
- Understanding the role of a mentor
- Being an effective mentor
- Developing listening and communication skills
- Discovering top tips to start a mentoring journey
- Encouraging youth leadership.
