Event description

You may have seen before Christmas the announcement by Jayne Stinson MP (Member for Badcoe) and Presiding Member of the the Environment, Resource and Development (ERD) Committee, of an inquiry into Adelaide's Urban Forest.

The committee is currently taking feedback from the community on how we can better protect and increase our incredibly important urban tree canopy.

The terms of reference (ie: what they want to hear about) are:

1. Best practice and innovative measures to assist in the selection and maintenance of site appropriate tree species to improve the resilience of the urban forest, with a focus on trees for urban infill developments;

2. Legislative and regulatory options to improve the resilience and longevity of trees comprising the urban forest; and

3. Any other related matters.

We have until the 24th February to make submissions to this committee. To make it as easy as possible for you to participate in this process, Tom Morrison (20 Metre Trees and CCSA's 2022 winner of the Jill Hudson Award for environmental protection) and Joanna Wells (Conservation SA's Tree Campaigner) will be running workshop sessions in the lead up to the 24th.

The aim of these is to have you bring along your own device - whether that be paper and pen, tablet or laptop.

Together we'll brainstorm innovative ways in which we might encourage people to maintain and add to Adelaide's urban canopy (we have some ideas to get us started!).

Finally, we'll have a template available so you can add your ideas to that, make a brief personal comment and send it off.
