    Event description

    Artists in Urban Jungle

Bayley Arts Gallery is pleased to present Urban Jungle, a whimsical exhibition of paintings, drawings, and sculpture by artists Tamar Dolev, Louise Taffs and Emi Tiernan. The exhibition encapsulates the unique perspectives of each artists’ personal experience in which they use their urban environment as a source of inspiration. Bridges, roads, apartment blocks, palm trees, and the animals they live with or meet at the park, become vehicles for abstract compositions, bold colours, pattern, shape and line. The artists’ everyday life is joyfully documented through a range of materials and they invite us to engage with their world in a playful and at times, humorous way.

Opening event Saturday 19th October, 2pm
Guest Speaker PJ Noack, Creative Producer, Arts Access Victoria

    ARTIST INFORMATION

Tamar Dolev is an award winning multidisciplinary artist, her practice includes painting, illustration, digital art, sculpture, photography and animation renown for her vibrant use of colour. The colourful and creative world of Tamar stems from her optimistic outlook and interprets encounters of everyday life and giving them a narrative. The surface is a large consideration in her process inviting the viewer to engage closely with her work.
Collaborating with other artists and continuing to make creative connections is an integral part of Tamar's process.

Tamar holds a fine arts degree from Monash University and has exhibited both Nationally and Internationally.

Louise Taffs art is characterised by her recurring subject of cats and rabbits. Her animated and expressive portraits of animals are often portrayed in bold, bright colours using posca pen on small-scale paper and board.

Louise Taffs is a practicing visual artist with extensive art experience. She has worked across drawing, painting, ceramics, screen printing, flower arranging, beading and felt art. She is a nature lover and was a member of a foreshore committee preserving local fauna. Her love of nature is evident in her art making.

Louise has exhibited extensively through Bayside City Council and regularly in the Bayley House annual art exhibitions and recently featured her etchings in the exhibition Ink It Up, at the Bayley Arts Gallery.

Emilie (Emi) Tiernen approaches colour with a great passion, in both her art and as a person. Emi will experiment with various techniques and mediums, but retains her bright compositions, rainbow animals, and concentrated patterns of colour which have since become her signature style. Growing up in Bayside Melbourne, Emi will construct her artworks by recounting beach holidays, trips in the car, and encounters at the dog park.

Emi has exhibited regularly at the Bayley House annual art exhibitions and in 2023 was selected in the exhibition Disability Lens on Climate Emergency, Climarte Gallery, Richmond.
