URBAN OASIS: Yoga & Sound Sanctuary
Event description
Urban Oasis: Yoga & Sound Sanctuary
A Mini Retreat for Body, Breath & Being
Step out of the noise and into the stillness.
Urban Oasis is a half-day sanctuary designed to nourish your wairua through movement, breath, and vibration. Held in the heart of the Lyttelton, this mini urban retreat invites you to slow down, reconnect, and restore. It’s a space for those seeking time with self—sinking deeply into one's mana motuhake, returning to what feels true.
Guided by Ōhinehou-based Amaya Priestley, a seasoned yogini and mother with over two decades of practice, the journey begins with a grounding and enlivening yoga session including vinyasa flow, pranayama (yogic breathwork) and meditation. Amaya’s teaching is rooted in authenticity and practicality, offering pathways into balance, joy, and embodied presence.
Following this and after a cuppa homemade chai and nourishing snacks, you’ll be enveloped in a deeply immersive Sound Journey led by Jake Kīanō Skinner—musician, storyteller, and practitioner of Taonga Pūoro and ambient soundscapes. With reverence for the elements and a gentle invitation to surrender, Jake weaves sound textures that allow the mind to release, and the heart to open.
Together, this experience is an opportunity to be held in sangha—community. It’s about creating accessible spaces for healing and recalibration—physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
