Urban Survival - Be Safe. Be Strong.
Lightfoot are excited to offer this free self-defence and active travel training course to women (and those who identify as women) aged 16 - 25 years.Â
Groups are limited to a maximum of 18 participants and morning tea will be provided.
During this 3.5 hour course, participants will learn about:
- Staying safe physically, assessing threat and responding appropriately using the Urban Survival training framework
- Getting hands-on to learn and practice a wide range of self-defence techniques
- How to use active travel safely at night
- Making decisions under pressure & assertiveness training
- Using technology to help keep them and others safe
Please note that the majority of the course will be focused on the self-defence component, so please wear comfortable clothes and bring a water bottle.
Course Facilitators
Sensei Pat Quaid is the owner of the Shukokai Karate dojo in Queenstown, and a registered secondary school teacher. He is an experienced Urban Survival trainer, and has worked with many women and girls to teach self-defence.
Amanda Robinson is the General Manager of Queenstown-based active travel charity the Lightfoot Initiative. She's the mum of two daughters, a registered secondary school teacher who has travelled extensively, and continues to work in Education.Â
