Event description

Are you ready to champion Integrated Water Management in South Australia?
We are looking for the next generation of water champions to help shape South Australia’s water future.

Creating cooler, greener, wilder spaces takes collaboration among passionate, skilled individuals who drive progress through their influence, expertise, and commitment. Progress happens when  champions come together to build shared visions, align actions, and spark broad community and organisational engagement.

Water Sensitive SA, in partnership with the International Water Centre at Griffith University, is dedicated to empowering a new wave of water champions—believing that strong capability, collaboration, and innovation are key to tackling complex water challenges.

Key learnings

  • The fundamental concepts relating to being a water champion – personal leadership and leadership development skills.

  • How Water Champions can drive positive change in the water sector, including the nature of significant leadership roles that are commonly seen in successful case studies.

  • Increase their capacity to engage in self-leadership (as the foundation for all other forms of leadership development), team leadership (including leading virtual and hybrid teams), leading across boundaries with little authority, and adaptive leadership to address complex problems;

  • Personal self-assessment exercises, group discussions, guest speakers, stories/case studies, local mentoring, and reflection exercises that focus on how to champion water outcomes for 2050

  • An ability to establish your own Water Champion activities (e.g. local mentoring, using a developmental plan, and getting feedback from colleagues);

  • Confidence to develop pathways for working together to champion better water outcomes for SA following participation in the course.

This course is ideal for professionals working in urban water, planning, design, infrastructure, or sustainability who are passionate about creating greener, more climate-resilient communities. It’s designed for those who want to become effective champions of change—regardless of their formal role or title—by building the confidence, skills, and networks needed to influence positive outcomes in their organisations, projects, and communities. Whether you're early in your career or looking to expand your impact, this course will help you develop the tools and mindset to drive meaningful change toward water-sensitive futures.
