Event description

What’s it all about?

In an effort towards sustainability and adding extra life to our garments and textiles - reusing, repurposing, mending and repairing - Robyn will teach us how to use a sewing machine in a fun and informative class.

Sewing of any kind is a really nifty skill, but sometimes the time it takes to hand sew can deter us from actually pick up that sewing project. Using a machine can certainly speed up your sewing, and having a beginner's (or refreshers) run through the machine will help help give you confidence.

You'll be whipping through your sewing and mending pile in no time!

This class welcomes absolute sewing beginners.

What will we cover?

In this hands-on class you will learn:

  • The basic features of a sewing machine - their location, set-up, and use
  • How to thread a sewing machine
  • How to thread a bobbin
  • How to adjust the thread tension
  • How to sew a basic stitch and reverse stitch using a sewing machine
  • Basic troubleshooting
