UTS Young Alumni present: Surviving corporate
Event description
Ever felt challenged by being a young person working in corporate Australia? Unfortunately, unless you have a trust fund, everyone has to start somewhere - and that’s usually at the bottom. Two people that are familiar with that place? Us.
Gen Z currently has the lowest employee engagement compared to all other age groups, and we want to help other young people fast track their progress through corporate Australia - and possibly save some money on therapy.
From the vantage point of our 30s, we can confidently advise early career professionals on How To Survive Corporate in Your 20s.
With over two decades of experience in the workplace between us, we will share some of the lessons we’ve learnt - like how to navigate workplace politics (e.g. how to explain Trello to your boss), how to cope with feeling powerless, getting the work/life balance right and whether you should care about how much the person next to you is earning.
We envisage this session as fun, interactive, serious and silly, and for Gen Z professionals to walk away with tools and techniques to help them get a rung up on the corporate ladder (or inspire a new zig/zag structure).
Format of event:
6:00pm: Doors open
6.30 - 7.30pm: Presentation
7.30 – 8.30pm: Complimentary networking drinks & nibbles on Level 3 from Cafe 80

About the speakers
Taylor DennyTaylor's career began in some of the most notable newsrooms in the country, juggling deadlines and textbooks while earning a double Bachelor's in Communications and International Studies.
From the fast-paced newsrooms of The Sydney Morning Herald, The Australian, and Network Ten, where she honed her ability to cut through the noise, she then brought her insights to the NSW Government, shaping public discourse. Now, as Communications Manager at National Intermodal, she drives strategic communication with the same passion she reserves for travelling and exploring new corners of the world.
She recently learned that navigating complex career landscapes is far easier than navigating black diamond ski runs.
