Event description

UW Stage Notes Presents: Amélie

Amélie is an extraordinary young woman who lives quietly in the world but loudly in her mind. She covertly improvises small but surprising acts of kindness that bring joy and mayhem. But when a chance at love comes her way, Amélie realizes that to find happiness she’ll have to risk everything and say what’s in her heart. Be inspired by this imaginative dreamer who finds her voice, discovers the power of connection, and sees possibility around every corner.

The musical is set in Paris, beginning with young Amélie in the 1970s and following her as she transitions to her adult self in the 1990s. Though Amélie is a realistic musical, there are a lot of abstract aspects, as the audience is following Amélie’s story through her own vision and seeing life influenced by her mind and imagination.

Amélie features a book written by Craig Lucas, music written by Daniel Messé, and lyrics written by Nathan Tysen and Daniel Messé.

Content Warning: Discussions of suicide (non-realistic.) Mild sexual content. Misogyny.
