VAPS 2021 Conference: Best Practice in Teaching Philosophy

The Victorian Association for Philosophy in Schools is proud to host our 2021 conference, focussed on the theme of: Sharing Best Practice.Â
Over two days, local, national, and international experts in Philosophy in Schools and beyond will showcase their work, enabling teachers to gain practical and ready-to-use strategies to implement in their classroom immediately. The event will be held online via the Hopin platform.
We are proud to announce our two keynote speakers, both of whom are known for their practical teacher resource books that provide teachers with easy to use materials, advice, and guidance in implement philosophy in educational settings.
Dr Phil Cam has worked in the Philosophy in Schools space for 30 years, which has including the publication of books such as Philosophy Park, Thinking Together, and 20 Thinking Tools, as well as the newly released Philosophical Inquiry: Combining the Tools of Philosophy with Inquiry Based Teaching & Learning. He is an international authority on philosophy in schools, who has run workshops for educators in many countries, and whose books for teachers and children have been widely translated. He has a DPhil in Philosophy from the University of Oxford and has had a long university career in Australia.
Professor Thomas Wartenberg has worked in the Philosophy in Schools space for 30 years, which has including the publication of books such as Big Ideas for Little Kids, A Sneetch is a Sneetch and Other Philosophical Discoveries, and Philosophy in Classroom and Beyond. He is a professor of philosophy at Mount Holyoke College and is former President of PLATO, the United States philosophy for children organisation, and was awarded the Merritt Prize in 2013 for his contributions to the philosophy of education.

If your school or university is paying for your ticket and is unable to pay online, please email the treasurer with your ticketing information and institution's details and we will provide an invoice.Â

VAPS has grant money thanks to the Department of Education's Strategic Partnerships Program that is available to anyone from a regional or rural school in Victoria. The grant will cover 100% of the cost of this conference. Please email the treasurer to access this option.
