Venice | Opus 1 @ Abbotsford Convent
Event description
La Serenissima, the Republic of Venice at the turn of the 18th century–a fiercely proud maritime port–expressed its cultural identity and power with its marbled architecture, its lavish art, and its trailblazing music.
Genesis Baroque explores the early compositions of Venice’s avant-garde baroque composers through their first pivotal volumes of sonatas, steeped in the vocal traditions of Venice and trio sonatas of Corelli in Rome, creating a vibrant trio sonata style that exemplifies the colours of Venice, from shimmering and lyrical to exultant and virtuosic.
