Verge Garden Discovery Walk + Talk
Description
Join us as we discover the wonderful world of verge gardening this spring!
Come down on Saturday 19 September and join two of Waverley's greenest thumbs as they talk about and walk you through the Verge Gardens in both South and North Bondi!
Verge gardens are gardens created and cared for on the public land between streets and private properties. They offer an opportunity for residents, neighbours and volunteers to work alongside Council, caring for these shared spaces.
Sometimes referred to as curb or street gardens, these small green spaces transform ordinary streets into places that support biodiversity, habitat and social connection across our neighbourhoods.
Anyone can have a verge garden, even if you live in an apartment building and this workshop is designed to provide understanding and guidance to get you started.
Whether you’re curious about creating your own verge garden, looking for practical ideas to enhance an existing verge garden, or simply enjoy walking and talking about nature, everyone is welcome to these talks hosted by residents Barbara Schaffer and Patrick Franklyn.
9am to 10am: North Bondi
Join principal landscape architect in the Government Architect NSW and North Bondi resident Barbara Schaffer for a relaxed morning walk and discovery of some of the very cool and (literally cooling) verge gardens that support our native birds and insects.
11am to 12pm: Bondi
Join landscape architect, educator and founder of On The Verge, Patrick Franklyn, for a relaxed walk through the streets of South Bondi and Tamarama, exploring how ordinary verges can become beautiful, biodiverse spaces that connect people, plants and wildlife.
{You will be contacted by email in the lead up to your nominated session with event location details}
Designed to inspire residents to get involved in verge gardening in their neighbourhoods these free events are ticketed, please register above for your free ticket/s to the talk you wish to attend.
