"Vestige"
Event description
This September, Australian artist Christophe Domergue unveils his most ambitious solo exhibition to date with Vestige - a deeply evocative, site-responsive installation housed within Precinct 75, Sydney’s vibrant creative hub and birthplace of former Tubman's Paint Factory in St Peters.
In Vestige, Domergue turns the historic factory itself into both medium and muse, using an innovative “peeling” technique involving fiber-glass and resin to extract surface textures directly from the building’s original floors. These raw sculptural “skins” embedded with decades of paint, prints, scars and wear become haunting, tactile records of the building’s industrial past and evolving identity.
Recently a co-finalist in the 2025 Archibald Prize, Domergue’s practice is known for its conceptual depth and minimalist materiality. With Vestige, he continues this exploration, this time through a direct collaboration with the site that once helped colour the homes and cities of Australia.
