VIC AABAT Spring Offering - Philosophical & Practical Immersion for Practitioners in nature & ACT

This event has passed Get tickets

Event description

Alternative Directions founder Adam Dickinson, is offering a workshop  exploring the uses of therapeutic theories and resources based around Acceptance & Commitment Therapy combined with sitting/playing/working in natural places to allow opportunity and useful change to not only occur during an outdoor session but to provide ongoing ideas/strategies that can be returned to and utilised after the outdoor event/experience.

Participants will be guided through a 3-hour experience and be given time at the conclusion of the experience to unpack the conversation and resources provided and how to incorporate the ideas and resources used into their own programs. This workshop is not to be seen as the facilitator as the expert, rather as a chance to be involved at looking at an experience and seeing whether it contains useful ideas to be used in other ways. (Participants will be encouraged to bring their own resources/ideas to strengthen the outcomes of the day)

Alternative Directions believes immersion in natural places allows thickening of individuals self-understanding, yet the paradox is that it sometimes leaves participants with complex ideas about how to utilise the skills learnt back in their wider community.

Outline of day

  • Introduction/acknowledgement of country
  • Guided 3 hour session, utilising the local natural environment and ACT frameworks.
