Event description

No matter the season, Vietnamese Phở (pronounced fuh) offers a warmth and brightness that will elevate your mood. This hot noodle soup, made by slow-simmering beef or chicken, is probably the most well-known Vietnamese food world-wide, and for good reason! Phở Gà is a rich and earthy chicken bone broth with aromatic spices like star anise, ginger, cloves, cinnamon, and onion, finished with the cornerstone of Vietnamese cooking — fish sauce (nước mắm). The light and golden broth is served over rice noodles with the tender stewed meat, topped with lime and fresh herbs like mint and basil. Experienced home cook turned chef and owner of Nuoc Mam-a Vietnamese Goods, Sandy Le will break down how to make a good bone broth and share tips she has learned from her family, who hail from South-Central Vietnam. She is also sharing how to stretch ingredients by making a Vietnamese chicken salad with leftover meat and showcasing her creativity with sweets with her take on tiramisu, using Vietnamese coffee and condensed milk cream. Sandy has built her business around the utilization of seasonal, local produce and herbs from small farms in the UP, so you can expect local ingredients where possible.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are there age requirements for the classes:

The curriculum of every class is unique, please be sure to refer to the class descriptions to check for appropriate age requirements. For our adult classes, we ask that only children 12 and older attend. Children 12 and older should be registered through Humanitix and paid for just like an adult. We love encouraging kids of all ages to explore healthy eating and new ways to prepare exciting foods at a level appropriate for their age. Please be sure to check our full class roster for information on classes that are geared towards younger children or contact us to set up a private class.

Contact Amanda at alatvala@marquettefood.coop or 906-225-0671 ext. 727 if you have questions about the class content.

We'd like to have wine with our meal. Are we allowed to bring in our own alcohol?

Unfortunately, no.

Can you guarantee a class free of allergens?

We cannot guarantee a 100% gluten or allergen free environment for our classes. While menus can be created to suit your dietary needs, many types of classes are hosted in our classroom. We do not have space to ensure special equipment or counter space is reserved as an allergen free in the same manner as a certified facility. Additionally, there may be flours or other allergens in storage in the room. We would, however, take every precaution possible in the preparation of your food to ensure your meal suits your needs within these boundaries.

Is my registration/ticket transferrable?

Sure. But if you send someone in your place to the class, please have them bring your ticket.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

No, you do not have to bring your printed ticket to the event. If you can’t attend and want to give your ticket to someone else, it is helpful if they bring it to the event.

Should I have a snack before class begins?

We recommend that you eat a little something before class begins. In most classes food is served at the end, which can be later in the evening.

Will there be aprons available?

You are welcome to bring an apron if you like, as often you will assist in preparing some of the dishes in the class. We have a few aprons to hand out, but there is a limited supply and they are claimed quickly.

Refund Policy:

Refunds will only be guaranteed for cancellations with at least 3 business days notice. Refunds are not given for people who do not show up for the class or cancel after tickets sales have ended.

Please note that refunds will include the ticket price less the Humanitix fees (which consist of the payment processing fee and service fee combined). If the Marquette Food Co-op cancels the class or postpones and you’re unable to attend, refunds will be for the full cost, including the ticket price and the Humanitix fees.

Can I get on a waitlist?

Yes. Humanitix has a waitlist feature. When a ticket becomes available, the first waitlisted guest will be notified via email with a link to purchase tickets. Every 30 minutes, the next guest in line will be notified if tickets are still available. Once every waitlisted guest has been notified, available tickets will be reopened to the public. Waitlisted guests will need to purchase tickets while they are available as their tickets will not be held.
