Jones has to be the world’s most laid-back singer in a jazz style, relaxed, cool, and unhurried. His unique smooth vocals captivates the audience as he fills the lyrics with his obvious love of the songs. Working at a high level of excellence is this rare genre-defying artist who creates music without borders. A remarkable interpreter and composer of songs in a contemporary unique style, whilst remaining relevant and prolific as a songwriter, continuing to explore new musical terrains. Confident in his own musical style, he sings like there’s nothing to prove with His distinctive rich velvet voice and profound joy for the Music.
As a man who thinks deeply about the state of the world and our need to get back to a simpler way of living, He
has never been afraid to comment on matters close to his heart;
including our planet, world affairs, injustice, nature & the
environment. His astute observations are interwoven between songs and
through His original compositions, from an unashamed perspective on the
world in which we live.
His
passion and voice as fresh and alive as the first day he hit the stage!
Vinces’ longevity in a temperamental Australian music industry is
applauded by all, receiving many accolades, multiple ARIA-Awards and
much recognition for his unique contribution to the Australian Music
Industry. Jones continues to be invited to grace many stages Oz wide,
Headlining major Arts Festivals and frequently invited by
Conservatoriums around the country to mentor tomorrow's up and coming
music students.
Particular
about the musical company he keeps, Jones continues to enjoy playing
with some of the best musicians the country has to offer and his shows
reflect the respect all involved have for the art form of Music. Tonight
he is joined by long time collaborator ~ Matt McMahon - Piano / MD *
Karl Dunnicliff - Double Bass * John Mackey - Tenor Sax and James
Hauptmann on Drums.
"A magical performance by Vince Jones, who now has one of the Best in a long line of exceptional bands" Sydney Morning Herald
Australia’s leading jazz vocalist, Vince Jones, is also a remarkable interpreter and composer of songs in a contemporary jazz style – a style that appeals equally to listeners and his musical peers. As a vocalist he resists showing off technique to the detriment of feel – he’s confident in his musical literacy and sings like there’s nothing to prove. It’s a refreshing approach that gives us, the audience, the chance to be really moved. Vince Jones also plays trumpet and over the years his style has developed a distinctive reserve and subtlety – he plays a little less and draws a good deal more from it than he did in earlier days. A brief, thoughtful solo from Vince is worth a hundred notes played with less discretion.
Born in Glasgow, Vince and his family came to live in Australia when he was 11 years old. He grew up in Wollongong, NSW, listening to his musician father’s collection of great jazz albums, and the feel, style and essence of the music became a natural part of Vince’s world. Starting his jazz performance journey as a bebop trumpet player, the young man had no idea that in 10 years, then 20 years – his superb voice would touch the hearts and minds of many listeners – in Australia and beyond. At 20, Vince began playing the club circuit in Melbourne. He was drawn to R&B music – a genre in which the emotive force of the voice is matched by technical and improvising skills. To a young man steeped in jazz and blessed with a good voice – it was natural to meld these elements together and so began the evolution of Australia’s great jazz vocalist.
