Event description

Join us for an "on the ground" tour of the beautiful Matakana wine region. This amazing trail offers wine, bees, countryside, a beautiful lunch, along with entry to the spectacular sculpture gardens and galleries of Omaha’s famed Sculptureum. This is a remarkable value added package and we can’t wait to show you around.

Our walk will start at Beetopia with a fascinating insight into beekeeping, production of bee-related products, and a honey tasting with the very knowledgeable Grass Esposti. Beetopia is a place where visitors can experience being ‘up close’ to honeybees in a natural habitat. Grass, an experienced and passionate beekeeper, will guide you to sit & observe her lovely bees. During the bee experience visitors will be given information about the various bee castes and their very different roles within the hive, bee facts and lifecycle, info on NZ honey varietals and amusing beekeeping anecdotes. Weather permitting a beehive will be opened so guests can actually see the inner sanctum and hear the hum of bees. The experience ends with a scrumptious honey tasting session of endemic honey types from throughout Aotearoa.

We will then head along the road to the renowned Sculptureum where we will enjoy some time sampling their fabulous wines produced here and on nearby vineyards.

We then ramble through neighbouring properties and uphill to our next stop at Omaha Bay Vineyard. Our hosts, Bev & Hegman, will showcase their wine selection for us. We also be served a delicious shared platter lunch in a stunning setting overlooking Omaha Bay ( a vegetarian option is also available). After stopping at the top of the hill for the stunning views, we continue on to Takatu Vineyard & Lodge for our last tasting.

We descend downhill through Hyperion Wines, and our last stretch will take us along to Morris & James pottery where the bus collects us.

You will be able to purchase wines at cellar door prices from any of the vineyards that we visit, and the wine will be delivered to Morris & James and loaded on to the bus in time for the afternoon departure.

This walk always sells out quickly so make sure you get some friends together for this excellent adventure.
