Course Outline:

This practical workshop explores the different types of disputes that can occur on workers compensation claims and what employers to can do to help manage these as effectively as possible to ensure a fair outcome for all. 

We'll hear from Mr Timothy Ashton - Director, Henty Lawyers, as well as Shawn Kim - Senior Legal Advisor, EML as they provide their insights on what employers can do to prevent claims from escalating into a dispute, and when this does happen, what they can do to help prepare the case, and what to expect from the legal process.

Learning Outcomes:

At the completion of this course, participants will have an understanding of common workers compensation disputes, dispute resolution processes, as well as practical strategies for  managing disputes when they do occur. Participants will also have an understanding of why it is important to prevent disputes and strategies to prevent claims from escalating into disputes.

Recommended for:

This course is applicable for a national audience and is aimed at Return to Work Coordinators specifically working in personal injury management.

About the trainer: Megan Hansson - Learning & Development Specialist, EMLMeg has worked in workers’ compensation, return to work and occupational health and safety for over 20 years. During this time Meg has applied her skills, knowledge and experience in a range of roles including as a trainer and facilitator, learning designer, advisor, Mental Health and WHS Specialist. 

Meg has extensive experience interpreting legislation and is passionate about helping learners achieve their career and study goals.

Meg holds a Diploma of Workplace Health and Safety, Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, Diploma of Fitness and a Diploma of Human Resources.

Timothy Ashton - Director, Henty Lawyers 

Timothy is recognised as a leading consultant in workers compensation, health and safety, and discrimination matters, since 1989.

Timothy’s practice includes all aspects of workers compensation, workplace safety, workplace investigations and employment relations predominantly within the Asia-Pacific region.

Timothy advises his clients strategically on injury prevention and workers compensation claim management, and in all other related issues.
He has a wealth of experience across industries, including companies in mining, transport, banking, local and state governments, construction, manufacturing, labour-hire, retail and hospitality.


Tass Vassiliou - Executive General Manager, Precise Investigations
With over 24 years experience in the insurance, workers compensation and broader claims management and investigations industry, Tass has developed a diverse set of skills and range of expertise across both the private and public sector. This includes over 10 years in middle and senior management roles that have been punctuated with successful start up and large scale business transitions, establishing strong client partnerships through collaborative business improvement solutions, developing talented professionals and driving performance and strategic outcomes.
