8+ years: Supporting Deep Interests: Virtual Autism MyTime
Event description
For many Autistic children, passions are more than hobbies, they’re a source of joy, comfort, and confidence. Whether it’s learning every Pokémon by heart, collecting squishmallows, or designing Minecraft worlds, these deep interests help our children express who they are.
In this session, we’ll discuss how info-dumping can be a beautiful form of self-expression and the ways shared interests can open doors to friendship and belonging. Together, we’ll reframe passions as something to protect and celebrate — a vital part of what makes our children who they are.
In this peer group we’ll explore
• Why passions are so important for identity, confidence, and wellbeing
• How interests can spark connection and communication
• Simple, affirming ways to support and celebrate what your child loves most
This group is facilitated by Kristy
Kristy is a proud mum to Dash, who is Autistic and has ADHD, just like his mum. She’s passionate about connecting with other families and celebrating neurodivergent joy and all the strengths that come with thinking differently.
