    Event description

Join us for a relaxing and fun visible mending workshop with Elise Hinkley from Hoop Hoop Hooray. Learn how to give your clothes a new lease on life, transform those imperfection into enhancements and reduce the amount of clothing going to landfill!

The workshop is beginner-friendly, so come as you are, or if you are a more experienced stitcher then build on your skills. In this hands-on workshop, we will explore appliqué and embroidery techniques emphasizing repair and mending.

The workshop will start by taking a look at examples of visible mending and discussing the different techniques and terminology. From there, Elise will provide a demonstration of Sashiko Japanese embroidery ‘how to’ and encourage others to try skill building exercises. Participants will then discuss mending ideas one on one and work on their garment to repair or embellish.

    What you’ll get:

    • All workshop materials (including Sashiko needle and thread) and notes so that you can continue mending and revamping your clothes at home.

    What to bring:

    • Garments (jeans, shirts, jumpers, cardigans, socks) or home textiles (tea towel or tablecloth) that have rips or holes that need repairing.

    • Embellishments (buttons, patches, fabrics etc) that are meaningful to you - not a requirement.

    • Your imagination and enthusiasm!
