Description

Visible Mending Workshop 🧵♻️

Give your clothes a new lease on life while learning practical skills to help keep textiles out of landfill.

Join Elise from Hoop Hoop Hooray for an interactive Visible Mending Workshop where you will explore creative ways to repair, strengthen and embellish damaged clothing and household textiles.

This workshop is open to everyone, whether you are completely new to stitching or already have some sewing experience and would like to build your skills.

During the session, Elise will introduce examples of visible mending, explain different terminology and techniques, and share ideas to help you repair or creatively embellish your own garments.

What’s included

🧵 All workshop materials, including a Sashiko needle and thread
📄 Basic visible mending notes
💡 Practical ideas, inspiration and guidance from Elise and fellow participants

What to bring

Please bring one or more items that you would like to repair, such as:

👖 Jeans
👕 Shirts
🧥 Jumpers or cardigans
🧦 Socks
🏡 Household textiles such as tea towels or tablecloths

Items with small rips, holes or areas needing reinforcement are ideal.

You are also welcome to bring buttons, fabric patches or other embellishments that are meaningful to you, although this is completely optional.

Most importantly, bring your imagination and enthusiasm!

About the facilitator

Hoop Hoop Hooray was created by Elise more than eight years ago from her love of embroidery and her passion for sharing creative skills with others. With a background in education, Elise is an experienced, friendly and patient facilitator who has delivered embroidery and visible mending workshops for both adults and young people across Perth.

Her aim is to help normalise mending, build confidence and inspire people to extend the life of their textiles rather than sending them to landfill.
